Dr. Macdonald completed his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT and medical school at the University of Texas Medical School-Houston. He completed a Transitional Year internship at Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale and his residency training in Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah-Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is board certified in Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Macdonald left Utah and became a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, where he worked as a Consultant and Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Macdonald’s research and clinical interests included genitourinary, gynecologic and thoracic malignancies, with particular efforts employed in developing a program in linear accelerator-based stereotactic ablative radiotherapy. He has published and presented over 50 original abstracts and manuscripts in his areas of interest and has served on national research committees.
After joining TRI in 2010, Dr. Macdonald remains actively interested in providing stereotactic ablative radiotherapy options for patients with thoracic, gastrointestinal and intra-cranial tumors. He is an active member of the local, state and national medical organizations including the American Society for Radiation Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
